Hello folks! It’s me, your adorable furry old pal Pip Lincolne. Are you ready for Best of the Week? Let’s begin …
best of the week
1/ RecipeTin’s guide to making sushi is super helpful. (Link)
2/ I loved this post about Road Trip Food! (Link)
3/ Chicago Public School Cookies are going on my To Bake list. (Link)
4/ Liberty X J Crew = nice homey things! (Link)
5/ I’m a sucker for posts like these → What TV show are you watching right now? (Link)
6/ Smitten Kitchen’s Lemon Cream Meringues sound like a very good idea. (Link)
7/ You HAVE to watch this guy making sandwiches in Sicily. Hilarious and delicious. (Below)
8/ I’m adding ‘POTHOLDER LOOM’ to my list of wanted things. (Link)
9/ These socks though!! I wore the bejeezus out of the non-knitted versions of these in high school. Somehow everything felt buoyantly possible with a pompom at each ankle. Alllll the nostalgic pangs happening right about now. (Link)
10/ I love raspberry and chocolate together, hence these Raspberry Chocolate Chip Cookies are just my cup of tea. With a cup of tea. (Link)
11/ Perhaps you already know how much I love Kitty?! The Guardian’s just done a write-up about her and her dad, in the lead-up to her cookbook launch. (Link)

what I ate yesterday
Okay, lemme see …
Breakfast was 3 weetbix with a slosh of maple syrup and soy milk.
Lunch was chicken soup I made the other day with a handful of spinach thrown in when it was good and hot.
I made a snack of smashed avo on ciabatta somewhere in here …
Dinner was oven-roasted broccoli and baby red potatoes with lots of pepper and a sprinkling of salt, a squeeze of kewpie mayo and a handful of sliced cherry tomatoes.
All very delicious and felt very nourishing!
tool of the week
A JULIENNE peeler? Do you have one? Have you used one? Do they work?! Are they a timesaver/stress saver/finger saver? (This one is by OXO and is about $10!)

RosieLondoner’s gorgeous snacky picnic platter caught my eye. (Watch)
I’m definitely going to make ChefMingTsai’s HOUSE RICE! (Watch)
“What makes me so attracted to baking? Perhaps it’s because it runs in the family; my great grandparents operated a bakery in Hobart. I never saw it of course - it was way before my time - but even before I came across this piece of family history I had an innate and undeniable compulsion for baking. Arguably it’s in the blood. There is something about it that just feels right and comfortable.” — Sally Wise, The Comfort Bake
chatty highlights
“I made stuffed shells last week for the first time (with big sauce and added Gorgonzola and spinach) and they were a massive hit. Will go on the regular rotation. Also I found the shell stuffing quite therapeutic.” — Kirsten on Best of the Week 08/2022
three good things
1/ Last night one of my cats (Olive) snuck into my room (where the pups and I were snoozing.) She didn’t come out of her hiding spot for ages and then she moved in for a cuddle and I sleepily thought “Oh my gosh, my pup has gotten so skinny … and soft … and WAIT A MINUTE! You aren’t Peach!”
2/ Trialling a new medication for my ME/CFS and feeling hopeful it might help.
3/ It’s Max’s birthday today!! Yay!
comment section recipes (because WHY NOT?!)
“Tinned sardines in tomato sauce, one tin per person. Mix it up add lots of Malt vinegar and good measure of Heinz tomato ketchup. Finish with a dash of Worcestershire sauce. Spread on buttered toast and finish off under the grill.” — David1604 : 19 Jan 2022 1:56 (The Guardian)
“Crack an egg into the hot pan and straight away flatten it with a tortilla - thus breaking the yolk and spreading it around the pan. As soon as the egg has set and attached to the tortilla, flip and toast the other side until browned (unless packing it as a lunchtime egg roll). Sometimes I just season and roll, others I add a filling - spinach, mushroom, cheese, chilli sauce etc.” — llouise55 : 21 Apr 2022 22:12 (The Guardian)
“fry onions in plenty of olive oil, meanwhile run a couple of courgettes down the square blade of your cheese grater so they are thinly sliced. add them to the oil until they are soft then cover with rough salt and enough black pepper to bring down an elephant. add some farfalle or linguine and make sure the pasta is well coated in the oil. mozzarella (fior di latte) can be added but is not essential.” — simonrobertson : 1 hour ago (The Guardian)
Thanks for reading! I appreciate it so much.
Love to you!

Oh My Goodness - that sandwich....watching that clip made my day! xx
Oh Pip, it’s so nice to hear from you again. I hope you are doing better & that those new meds help.
What a jam packed newsie you’ve given us! So much to love.
That sandwich- wow! I wouldn’t be able to eat a quarter of it, it’s so jam packed!
I had never heard of kitty but loved that guardian article so much I promptly preordered the book! How many bread books can one woman own before it’s ridiculous? Not sure, I’ll let you know when I get there.
I am for sure making house rice. I love both white & brown rice so mixing them is genius! I use the knuckle method for measuring my water too. Not sure where I learnt that but it’s how I’ve taught my kids to cook rice too.
I am a massive fan of my julienne peeler. Mine is a double ended one I got from the Freo markets about 10 or more years ago. I mainly use it for carrots & zuchinni. The other end is a regular peeler but it’s fab for shaving lettuce & cabbage.
Happy birthday to your boy! We’ve had 3 birthdays here in the last 3 weeks & Sadie will round us out on Monday. Hooray for all Aries & Taurus people keeping the world fiery.
Road trip snacks- chicken twisties or burger rings, red liquorice, fantails, plenty of water & coke no sugar. Drive thru cheese burger & fries or a bakery stop for a curry pie if it’s a super long trip Not a healthy thing in sight!
Love to you Pip x
