My rice cooker is a cheapy too and the rice is starting to stick. I bought my daughter a brand one when she moved out I’ll have to find out her thoughts and what brand it is before I replace mine. I don’t like single use gadgets but I make an exception for the rice cooker as it always works. I do tend to use the sachet packets more now that it’s just 2 of us because lazy.

Very excited for Downton abbey that and the crown are the only 2 series I’ve actually watched all the episodes. I’m not much of a watcher.

Cheers Kate

You got hobnobs!!! How great are they?!

I have never watched downtown abbey but I feel like it’s something I’d like to watch. Might be less addictive than Shamelss of which I am currently hooked on.

I used to always cook my rice in the microwave- 1 cup rice to 1.5 cups of water. Perfect every time. But since I got my multi cooker I tend to use that more because it’s huge & I can cook more. The multi cooker is great for all grain cooking actually. Today I cooked freekeh & burgel. So nutty & delicious.

Shameless is great, isn't it? I watched a bunch of seasons a while back, but I think there are more that I have not seen. What kind of multi cooker do you have, Reannon? Sorry. I am nosy! x

Shameless is so good! There are 10 seasons & I think I’m about half way through the sixth one.

I have the crockpot multi cooker, bought it for my birthday last year. It’s brilliant. I love the idea of slow cooking but never the results so using the pressure cooker has been a game changer. I love that it does lots of different things in one machine. It’s great for cooking dried legumes too. I’m a big fan!

I am so scared of pressure cooking. How do you get over the fear factor, oh wise one?

Fiona and Lip were my faves, I think. I need to get back into it to remember!!

The new machines are pretty failsafe. I use a wooden spoon to release the valve if I’m in a rush but mostly I just let it release naturally so when I take the lid off there is barely any steam. I think you’d get a lot of use out of one, even if it’s just for the rice because it has a “keep warm” feature so you could have warm rice on hand all day if you like.

And Lip is my favourite, I adore him! I also love the character progression of Mikey, Ian’s boyfriend. I only let myself watch it on a Saturday night because I get too hooked. I did sneak in a few eps last night which is a silly thing to do on a Sunday night but sometimes you have to break your own rules right?!

Sadly and mostly because it saves me time…I buy the pre-cooked rice in sachets because of quantity & often times it’s just a single serve for me. I use the family size for when I make fried rice. The thing is, it’s only two of us now and since we eat less ( just can’t fit as much in…as we age) I still do batch cooking and our freezer gets individual portions of meals. My 97 yo Dad gets a range of these each time I visit. Currently watching Downton for umpteenth time ( my comfort DVD series) and Darling Buds remains an old fave too. Will keep an eye out for the Larkins. Take care dear Pip!

That makes a lot of sense, re the sachets. Ari (my youngest) likes them too because they are quick and easy. And there is nothing quite as comfortingly delicious than a big bowl of fried rice, in my opinion. I have never thought to buy the sachets for that, so that's an ace tip! Thank you!

How good is the river cafe table podcast?! The Michael Caine episode was an absolute delight, and I thoroughly enjoyed Tracey’s episode too, and have been thinking of apples sliced on pretty plates ever since. Also thrilled to hear about the new Darling Buds of May, how brilliant! Thanks for the heads up!

We have a Kambrook rice cooker that is 20 years old and never skips a beat…but I use the knuckle method to gauge the water level as was taught to me by my Indonesian boyfriend in high school. Fool proof. Hope the packing runs smoothly, sob. And that you have a good week health wise xxx

Oh my god. Michael Kane was brilliant, wasn't the?! Such a LAD. Same re the apples on plates. In random chunks, if you please! I think the OLD appliances are much more sturdy than the new ... don't you? Hence the 20 year lifespan of your rice cooker. YOU have a good week toooo! x
