Pumpkin-y Lamb & Potato Casserole with Green Beans
Or switch the lamb for mushrooms and make it vegetarian!
Hello! It’s me! I have risen from the birthday weekend which was honestly super-quiet and tame, but left me ill for a week, to feel a tiny bit like myself at last again. I know it’s boring to hear about other people’s unwellness, so I will not dwell on it. Instead I will share THREE GOOD THINGS from this week and give you a recipe you will surely love. That sounds more interesting, doesn’t it?! Let’s go!
One/ My sister came to visit for my birthday weekend. I had not seen her since my Nan’s funeral in Tassie, so it was lovely to spend time with her during happier days. Mostly we just sat on the couch and chatted and snacked and patted my cats Olive and Chippy. That is my favourite kind of vibe, to be honest. She was here for two nights and I feel lucky to have had some special time with her.
Two/ A little stray cat is living on our front porch and I love her so much. I am going to get her desexed and immunised when I can. In the mean time I am feeding her and giving her lots of love and cosy cat caves and baskets and blankets to sleep on and in. (We wormed and flea treated her, never fear!) We call her BabyCat, Fleabag, Wonky, Darling and Wobbly. All these names suit her!
Three/ I finished a book this week. I have been having trouble reading due to illness, but I got through a lovely comforting tale of a young woman who moves to Scotland to live as a nanny and sell books out of a little van. It’s every bit as calming as it sounds (and also funny!) It’s by Jenny Colgan and is called The Bookshop on the Shore.
And now a recipe? I think so …
Love to you, dear reader!

It’s so lovely to see you in my inbox Pip! And I’m happy you’re feeling a bit better. I wish there was something I could do to make things easier for you. Is there anyway we can support you from afar?
And how GREAT is being with your sister?! Mine is over with her baby & after being separated for more than 2 years I actually can’t contain my joy. I’m SO happy!
Jenny Colgan is one of my fave feel good writers. Her books are like a cosy blanket, so nice to curl up with. I just read another Mhairi McFarlane book yesterday. Her books are very fun.
Take care Pip xx
lovely to catch up with you Pip, I sure hope you soon find yourself in some kind of remission from all your health struggles.
Thanks for this recipe I don't like lamb but know members of my family will love this and I may just try it with beef as well.
I have put that book on hold at the library.
I've just finished listening to Melissa Harrison's podcast the stubborn light of things, was it you who recommended it? Anyway all that to say I've found myself craving, yearning for the calmness and kindness of simple podcasts and books, things that are just nice and kind and gentle. I didn't realise just how jangly and fizzy my nerves were until I enveloped myself in her podcast with its gentle, lovely sounds, nature and calming voice and gentle topic. I didn't even know how much I needed gentle before.
cheers kate
